This nudge presented an ideal opportunity to give the wonderful Fors.fm’s latest devices a whirl. Kit comprises of four experimental Max for Live devices: Jog a Euclidean sequencer, Pop an eight voice synth, Hue a dynamic bandpass filter and Box an unorthodox reverb.

I created 10 tracks, each with a separate instance of Pop, dual instances of Jog (one transposing the other) plus various combinations of Hue and Box. I tried to create as much variety as possible from one track to the next so that they each had their own distinct character and hopefully, space in the mix. The gain of each track was fairly arbitrarily automated to create an evolving, ambient soundscape.

Not knowing what was in store for us all in part two of this nudge, I opted to keep things as loose and flexible as possible. I was pleasantly surprised by the result of removing six layers.

The track title is the nickname for Lundy Hole, a collapsed sea cave near New Polzeath in North Cornwall, UK.
