For part one, I began my process with my usual method of recording myself exploring different sounds with the intent of sampling them and using them to build the track. What was actually recorded first is lost to my bad memory, but the first idea that I put into ableton as a starting point was a piano loop that was supposed to be the main focal point and carry the whole track. Bummer. The tenth idea that I had forced in out of desperation was a re-pitched and chopped up version of the piano. Good riddance to that one.

In the spirit of wreaking havoc, I decided to continue to embrace the idea of stripping the elements that provided the most direction and structure to the track. What remained in the end were four sounds that were originally just supporting textures to the lead instrument:

1. Field recording of water.

2. The original piano loop processed through the cranes script on norns and then spliced in ableton. To reduce the clutter on the original version I had spit the track so only one of the channels was audible.

3. A few plunks from a kalimba sample.

4. Piano through cranes again, except this time I kept it stereo and disintegrated it until it was just a bunch of noise.
