For this Song, I wrote the basic chord progression on my guitar, as I do for just about everything and then wrote it out the Midi in my DAW. I always start with a beat for my songs, so the 1st recording was a drum sampler, which is now removed for Part 2. I ended up not using any drums or percussion on Part 2, which I don’t ever do. I made multiple variations on the basic midi chord progression, created a bass line, etc. I love plucky instruments or samples, so for the main plucky part, I used a Koto/Harp sampler instrument running through my Fabrikat for that cool glitchy effect. I created a background bass with my OB6, mangled the audio a bit with various effects and added some ping pong delay. The violin like pad is also the OB6 with a ton of CXM 1978 Reverb, which makes anything sound good. The last part that survived the cut for version 2 is a Sampled Pedal Steel. I always try to remember to hit record before I attempt anything with a new instrument, even if I haven’t come up with an idea yet, because a lot of time, that first little noodle, ends up being great. This time the first take was the keeper. The last thing I recorded for part 1 was a Piano outro of the basic chord progression so that was the other required cut.
I ended up liking Version 2 better. Other than the fact that it is way too long. Sorry about that everyone! There was a little pizzicato section that was removed for part 2 after the pedal steel, but that section was probably too long to begin with. I really liked the feel of the build up and the reverbed OB6 getting more intense so I left it as is, thinking that part 2 might have some sort of editing, but as we know now, it did not. As always, this nudge was a blast, and just instilled the fact that less is more, which I should put in to practice more.
